Lewis Lilyquist Memorial Scholarship

Fund Background: The Fund was established in 1981 in memory of Lewis Lilyquist who was born the son of a banker in November, 1917 in Barton, ND, a small town near Rugby, ND. The Lilyquist family moved to Lisbon when he was in high school in the 1930's and he graduated from Lisbon High School in 1935. In his high school years, he was quite an athlete, excelling in a number of sports. He later played football for MacAllister College in Minnesota while receiving his bachelors degree.

Red (as he was known) received a medical discharge from the naval reserve and traveled to Chicago where he worked as a fire inspector. When his father passed away, he came back to Lisbon to be cashier at the Farmers State Bank. He later bought into the bank insurance agency in 1951 and worked there until 1971 when the agency was sold to the First American Bank.

Besides his work in insurance, Red was a cattle rancher and investor. He never married. In his adult years, he was an avid golfer and bowler. He served many community organizations including Secretary of the Library Board, Elder of Presbyterian Church, longtime member and president of the Kiwanis Club and the Civic Club.

Eligibility Requirements: To financially assist graduating seniors from the Lisbon, ND High School. The award will be made in the fall of each year.

Applications accepted January 1 - April 1 only. Applications received outside of this window will NOT be accepted.
