Jean A. Argue Scholarship

Fund Background: The Jean A. Argue Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 by family and friends to honor Jean, who died in October of 1997. Jean A. Argue was born June 7, 1908 to Albert and Annie (Boddy) Argue of Hannah, ND. Jean grew up in the Hannah area. Later, she attended the University of North Dakota and Valley City State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught for 35 years at St. Thomas, ND, one year at Noonan, ND, and 21 years at Hamilton. She married John E. Argue on February 23, 1931 in Noonan. She returned to Valley City State College where she received her masters degree in education. John passed away on July 29, 1969. Jean enjoyed gardening with her cat, Miranda. She was a member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church for over 50 years and the Bathgate Order of the Eastern Star #74 for 50 years. 

Eligibility Preferences:

  • It is the intent that this scholarship not be limited to first-year students.
  • Students completing undergraduate degrees shall be given priority over those obtaining masters or doctoral degrees.
  • Priority will be given to students residing in the former St. Thomas School District.
  • Special preference shall be given to a student or students who are entering or continuing their education in the field of education.

Applications accepted January 1 - April 1 only. Applications received outside of this window will NOT be accepted.
